This number of MOUs far exceeds 9 MOUs in the previous conference (TICAD6).

With the Republic of Kenya, we signed more than one MOU, including a comprehensive MOU in accordance with the Kenya's "Big Four Agenda" which is a medium-term development plan, to further strengthen our business in Kenya. We also signed MOUs with other nine nations and Japanese government agencies including, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which is a Japanese governmental agency, and the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN) to meet the developmental needs of African nations.

In addition, we agreed to cooperate with the United Nations for "Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development Goals (STI for SDGs)" as the first private company.

Among the 16 MOUs, three are for automotive industrial development, four for next-generation mobility, three for renewable energies, two for the modernization of agriculture and fishery sectors, and four for others. Based on the businesses we have built, the Toyota Tsusho Group will accelerate the introduction of new technologies into African nations in a broad range of areas and contribute to their economic growth.

Toyota Tsusho Group has businesses in all of Africa's 54 countries, with 15,500 employees working in the continent of Africa. Through the signing of these MOUs, we will further contribute toward Africa's economic growth, and at the same time, contribute toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

An overview of these MOUs are given as they were introduced at the MOU ceremony held yesterday as part of the TICAD7 official side event "Japan-Africa Business Forum" organized by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Please see the attachments for details.

Industrial Internet Consortium approves Testbed of Negotiation Automation Platform for coordinating interests among AI systems- Promoting implementation through expansion of participants - Tokyo, August 21, 2019 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701), Fraunhofer IOSB, Kabuku Inc., the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) , Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd., and Toyota Tsusho Corporation announced today the approval by the Industrial Internet Consortium廬 (IIC鈩?*1) of a Negotiation Automation Platform Testbed in cooperation with Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), designed for the validation of new technologies, applications, products, services and processes for industrial networks. This represents an important step towards a global standard for AI technology.

The IIC Negotiation Automation Platform Testbed leverages a variety of AI infrastructure technologies, which automatically negotiate trading conditions and resource assignment with each other in order to coordinate interests among various AI systems. The networking of AI throughout society, such as the automatic negotiation between AI, has brought a great deal of attention to the importance of responsible social implementation, the need for legal guidelines, and the consideration for economic and ethical issues. In terms of specific applications, this product is expected to be used across areas that include the manufacturing, transportation, electricity and water supply fields.

NEC led the proposal of this testbed, with the support of Fraunhofer IOSB, Kabuku Inc., KETI, OKI, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and AIST as participants. In the future, testbed participants aim to expand the range of organizations and target industries that contribute to these developments and to promote standardization activities that support the growth of AI throughout society.

Toyota Tsusho and Chubu Electric Power Continue Virtual Power Plant (VPP) V2G Aggregator Demonstration Project Utilizing Batteries of PHV's/EV's for Storage- Next step in V2G demonstration project to supply power from storage batteries of PHV's/EV's - Toyota Tsusho Corporation (hereinafter "Toyota Tsusho") and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (hereinafter "Chubu Electric Power") announce that they are entering the second year of their joint V2G demonstration project. The companies have jointly applied for subsidies to continue their "V2G*1 Aggregator Demonstration Project" as a part of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Agency for Natural Resources and Energy's "FY2019 Subsidies for Virtual Power Plant*2 Demonstration Project for Improvement of Energy Management in Demand Side." On May 30, 2019, the two companies received approval from the Sustainable Open Innovation Initiative, the executive body responsible for approving subsidy applications. The companies initially launched the project in FY2018, and this marks its second year.

Vehicle to Grid (V2G) is a technology that harnesses the power of energy storage in batteries of plug-in hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles (hereinafter "PHV's/EV's"). V2G has two main functions: "Renewable Energy Capacity Firming" to minimize the impact of fluctuation in the output of renewable energy production, and "Renewable Energy Time Shift" to store excess renewable energy output and return it when it is needed. These two V2G services are expected to help resolve the issues of utilizing renewable energy production such as wind and solar.

In fiscal 2018, the companies developed a V2G control system while testing and assessing the impact of the system on both the charging of storage batteries of PHV's/EV's and the supply of power to the grid.

In fiscal 2019, the companies will simulate conditions closer to real life environments. They will add Supply-Demand Control Test Server*3 to the V2G control system developed in the previous fiscal year and create a new demonstration test environment with simulated supply-demand control orders from Chubu Electric Power. The companies will also conduct demonstration tests using PHV's/EV's actually used in daily travel and work schedules. Additionally, the companies will provide car drivers with a smartphone application in which they will store their car use schedules. Based on their schedules, V2G tests will be conducted during times when the vehicles are parked.

In this project, Toyota Tsusho is acting as the aggregator*4 and building the V2G control system (using a V2G system developed in the U.S. by Nuvve Corporation*5). The system is being designed to add new value to PHV's/EV's by offering balancing control to the grid and supply capacity shift for renewable energy.

Chubu Electric Power is responsible for assessing the effect of V2G on the grid from the point of view of Transmission System Operator (TSO) and for contributing to the improvement of technology to develop a new kind of balancing control power. These technologies are intended to support the stable delivery of safe and inexpensive power.

*1 Utilizing the storage batteries of PHV's/EV's for battery charging as well as supplying stored power to the electric power grid.
*2 Connecting renewable power generation sources, such as solar generation systems at homes and company plants, as well as storage batteries into a single network so that they can operate as one power generation node.
*3 Testing equipment designed to send balance control orders from TSOs to aggregators in order to utilize V2G. This is required to adjust power demand and supply (control frequency and adjust the balance of demand and supply) in order to maintain a fixed frequency (50Hz or 60Hz).
*4 A business which utilized energy resources to provide services to power generation companies, TSOs, and electricity retailers
*5 Nuvve Corporation is a U.S. start-up company developing V2G businesses in Europe, Asia and the United States. The company provides multiple grid services such as frequency regulation service, renewable energy optimization or vehicle to building energy services . It launched the world's first V2G commercial operation in Denmark in 2016. Toyota Tsusho became an investor in Nuvve in December 2017.

("Toyotsu Logistics Service") from April. The introduction has taken place at the Toyota Logistics Service Miyoshi Logistics Center II (Miyoshi-shi, Aichi), which engages in logistics for automobile parts within Japan. With a view for future coordination with overseas logistics bases, PT. TOYOTA TSUSHO LOGISTIC CENTER, the logistics base in Indonesia, has also established an RFID introduction project.
